Serving Teams

Become part of the Forge story and use your unique skills and gifts to benefit and develop both yourself and others.

You were shaped to serve and at the Forge we want to make sure that where you serve is right for you and for us.

Taste & See is an initiative designed to give you a tailor made opportunity to dip your toe in; you won’t be asked sign up for life to a particular role instead you will be given time to consider what’s right for you and the church.

Taste & See

The Forge has 13 main serving teams, some of which are outlined below. If you would like to Taste & See in any of these teams please don’t hesitate to contact the office using the form above. We are more than happy to help you to find the right place for you to serve.  If you don’t see anything that appeals to you, but want to find a place to get connected and be involved, contact the Forge Office.

242 (youth congregation) – How can I get involved:

  • Practical Helpers:
  • Admin – registering young people, collecting consent forms and keeping your head when others are losing theirs!
  • Set up – sunday morning services and some social events
  • Drivers – are you able to drive at the right speed limits? Could you take a group of quiet and calm young people to an event in your car? Sadly, we don’t have any quiet and calm young people but if you don’t mind some noisy laughter on a journey please help out
  • Food & Drink – Preparing breakfast on Sunday mornings
  • Technical – working  to present audio, video and multi-media elements to 242
  • Committed Youth Leaders - Are you interested in the lives of young people? Could you engage, listen and share your life with them?


Admin Team – How can I get involved:

  • In the office – helping with agreed tasks such as photocopying, database updates, taking phone calls and filing in The Forge Church office
  • At home – undertaking agreed church admin tasks to help out The Forge Church and all its’ departments. eg – checking our website for accuracy
  • On a Sunday – help with Sundays admin tasks such as selling event tickets, handing out post, taking messages, relaying information


Kid’s congregation - How can I get involved:

  • Set up & Take down - help by setting up or taking down children’s classrooms and worship area
  • Team Worship – encouraging children to engage with God through songs/actions/dance
  • Planning Team – Planning the programme for a Sunday morning
  • Small Group Leaders – befriending and being responsible for a ‘small group’ of children
  • Small Group helpers – Supporting the small group leaders as they work with a small group of children
  • Admin / Preparation – preparing and helping in readiness for a Sunday morning, at a time to to suit you
  • Technical – to present audio, video and multi-media elements to the children’s congregation

Splat! – How can I get involved:

This takes place in Debenham Community Centre on Thursday evenings, 6-7pm during term time and is for kids age 5-11 years.

  • Admin / Preparation – preparing and helping in readiness for a Thursday evening, at a time to to suit you
  • Helpers – supporting and assisting with the delivery of the programme

Schools – How can I get involved:

The Kids congregation has links with local schools, to find out more about how you can get involved by emailing Sam, details on the contact page.


Crèche Team – How can I get involved:

  • Set up / Pack up – Crèche set up starts at 9.00am Pack up begins straight after the 2nd service and usually takes 15 minutes
  • Leaders – take charge of Crèche on a regular basis. They also attend some planning meetings and help maintain play equipment. Leaders also build relationships with children and their parents. Leaders help make Crèche a positive experience for all
  • Helpers – support the Crèche leaders on Sundays, initiating play and befriending the group
  • Student helpers – aged 15 or over. Helping out with play. Supporting helpers and leaders

Creative Communications Team – How can I get involved:

  • PPT – creating attention grabbing media for Powerpoint and other projected graphics
  • Print – producing printed materials such as leaflets, posters, flyers etc
  • Video – working with the Production team on video shoots and then editing footage for use on DVD projects
  • Photographers – providing still photography and / or moving footage (of absolutely anything) for use by other members of this team
  • www – working on The Forge website. Designers, editors, programmers etc

Special Events Team – How can I get involved:

  • Events Team – being part of the planning and organising of special events arranged throughout the year
  • Alpha – helping to organise and / or run Alpha suppers and any their following courses
  • Admin – being prepared to help with the administrative tasks that Forge Church special events generate

Music Team – How can I get involved:

  • Attend Rehearsals – to get to know the other band members, learn new songs, work on song arrangements
  • Playing / singing on Sundays – helping the congregation in sung worship
  • Worship leading – choosing songs and taking responsibility for leading the band / congregation in worship
  • Administration – photocopying music, creating CD’s of new songs etc
  • Audition – each new member is auditioned to ensure that they are musically proficient

Production Team – How can I get involved:

  • Screens & Signs – helping to set up our projector, and associated cabling as well as setting up Forge signs and banners
  • Sets & Props – help to design and build sets and props to be used by drama performers or Sunday speakers
  • Stage hand – help to efficiently add or remove sets, props, instruments and other equipment from the stage

Refreshments Team – How can I get involved:

  • Set up – arriving early and making sure the refreshments area is ready and welcoming
  • Kitchen – keeping the coffee and tea flowing and the kitchen organised
  • Servers – making guests feel at home; being sociable and efficient
  • Clear up – being a ‘behind-the-scenes’ person; clearing and washing up
  • Team leaders – being responsible for a team of six and co-ordinating that team on a Sunday

Tech Team – How can I get involved:

  • Vision Mixing – operate the vision mixer, projecting media, DVDs and other visual material through the projector
  • Amp it up – operate the PA desk to provide the best sound for stage based performers and content from the vision mixer
  • Broadcast – operate a video camera to capture footage for future use or live broadcast
  • Press Record – help to produce CD recordings of Sunday’s talks using our CD duplicator
  • Set up – get an intimate knowledge of The Forge’s technical equipment by helping to set it up, ensure it’s working and put it away at the end
  • Trainees – using the technical equipment is a skill not an art. It’s also surprisingly easy to use. We would encourage anyone with a technical interest to get involved

Welcome Team – How can I get involved:

  • Door duty – greeting and directing people as they enter and leave the building
  • Connectors - spotting new people, or those who have no-one to talk to and introducing them to others
  • Team leaders – being responsible for a team of six welcomers and co-ordinating that team on a Sunday
  • Ushers – showing people to their seats
  • Car park – being visible as soon as people leave their cars to welcome, direct and answer questions. Helping people find parking spaces
  • Administration – helping with the paperwork and telephone calls that this ministry generates
